Florida SUV driver refused to slow down at 155 mph
20-year-old James Lawrence Case III was traveling at 155 mph in his Audi S5 SUV when one of his passengers begged him to slow down.
As he barreled down State Road, he said, “I know what I’m doing”. But unfortunately, he didn’t understand the danger he was putting himself, passengers, and other drivers in.
Then he rear-ended a Honda Accord, switched lanes, and hit a curb, causing the SUV to roll over. One passenger was ejected and killed during the incident. The passenger that was ejected wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
Three passengers from the Honda were immediately taken to a local hospital. Survivors in the Audi SUV were also injured and taken to the hospital.
Police officers shared that vehicle recorder data reported that Case was traveling at 129 mph at the time of impact. His passengers showed video recordings of him hitting speeds of 155 and 156 mph before the incident.
According to Local 10, the speed limit on the stretch of road where the wreck occurred was 45 mph. The warrant claims that drugs and alcohol weren’t suspected factors.
Case was arrested on six felony charges, including one count of vehicular homicide. Broward court records showed that he had multiple citations dating back to 2022 that were dismissed due to a lack of prosecution.
