Car crashes into fire hydrant and gets suspended in the air by water pressure
In the movies, whenever someone would hit a fire hydrant, cars would plow through it and a geyser would plume into the air. Likely no one would assume a car would end up suspended in the air by water pressure underneath the hydrant.
However, that’s exactly what happened in Lake Forest, California last June after a silver SUV crashed into a hydrant. The occupants were able to escape before the pressure built up enough to blow the rear of the car into the sky, but everyone – including the first responders – was amazed.
“We’re going to chalk this up as something you don’t see every day,” wrote the OC Fire Authority on X. “Engines 19 and 222, Truck 20, and Battalion 9 responded to the intersection to find a two traffic vehicle collision with a sheared fire hydrant with a suspended from the significant pressure.”
As if it were a statue, the SUV was stuck in the air from the hydrant’s pressure. Thankfully, while the occupants were moved to the hospital, the firefighters were able to quickly lower the vehicle.
“Firefighters on scene lowered the vehicle by isolating the water grid on each side of the hydrant,” the account continued. “This lowered the car and firefighters were eventually able to access the water shutoff adjacent to the car.”
Viewers had jokes
ABC 7 uploaded a video to its YouTube channel of the scene, and the top comment stemmed from potty humor.
“That’s what happened to me after my wife bought a bidet from TEMU,” they wrote, earning almost 400 thumbs up.
Someone else saw the silver lining.
“That’s one way to properly clean under your car,” they said.
Another viewer couldn’t help but make another bidet joke.
“Dang, they got these fancy toilets for cars now, too?”
