Sadly, many people decide to drive while under the influence. This is even though this crime causes numerous car wrecks each year. An assistant fire chief was accused of doing this following a crash. The man is now facing a DUI charge. His career as a volunteer firefighter might also be over following a police traffic stop.

It’s never a good idea for anyone to drive while under the influence

According to Fox 59, a 67-year-old assistant fire chief in Elizabethtown, Indiana, was on his way to a structure fire on March 9th. Notably, he was traveling in a pickup truck issued by the fire department, and the lights and sirens were active. Sadly, it seems he decided to drive while under the influence and ended up crashing. The report says he ran off the road, and the truck rolled over on someone’s front lawn.

Naturally, someone called the police after seeing the overturned truck. The officers arrived and conducted a traffic stop on the wrecked vehicle. The man was trapped inside the truck, and a fire crew had to find a way to remove him. Once out of the pickup, the police officers noticed signs of a person who had decided to drive while under the influence. This prompted the authorities to transport the man to the hospital, where they took a blood sample. From there, the police arrested the man for drunk driving.

The charges against the assistant fire chief are pending. However, assuming that the man will face a DUI charge and perhaps others is reasonable.
