Chicago drivers get pelted with burning trash as a garbage truck explodes
When it rains cats and dogs, it’s really coming down. When it’s raining men, some people say hallelujah. However, when it’s raining flaming trash there’s probably a problem like a garbage truck explosion. Chicago drivers recently felt the pain of burning trash.
A garbage truck explodes sending flaming trash all over the city
Multiple drivers around Chicago faced a storm of flaming trash after a garbage truck exploded. The flaming waste injured two police officers and a firefighter as they battled the blaze.
Authorities responded to reports of a truck fire in Arlington Heights, about 25 miles northwest of Chicago to assess the scene, but the explosion occurred moments after they arrived.
The officers and firefighters were injured due to the post-blast concussion and flying debris. They were quickly taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Then the Arlington Heights Fire Department aggressively attacked and contained the fire before things got worse. Plus, many first responders were in close proximity to the explosion and were able to immediately respond.
During the blaze, many homes and vehicles were damaged. The police cars parked around it deployed their air bags. The first fire engine on the scene had a shattered windshield and the cab-mounted radio flew off its console.
According to Yahoo, a shockwave caused substantial damage. Some homes had siding and sections of their roofs blown off. Many windows were shattered. Large truck parts and debris flew for many blocks.
The truck was powered by compressed natural gas and operated by Groot Waste Management. It sent a clean-up crew and equipment to remove residual content from homes and streets in the area.
Also, it’s currently unclear why the truck caught on fire or exploded. Residents who experienced damages related to the explosion are asked to call 911 to document the incident properly.
