There might be trouble ahead for the most affordable Chevrolet SUV. The cheapest Chevy SUV in the lineup is built in South Korea, meaning it can’t escape new tariffs. It starts for under $21,000 but might get more expensive.

What is the cheapest Chevy SUV?

The cheapest Chevy SUV in the lineup is currently the 2025 Chevy Trax. It has an MSRP of $20,500, and automakers just can’t match that price point.

Also, being called cheap, doesn’t mean it’s bad. This tiny SUV is a bargain that drivers may want to consider before prices potentially skyrocket.

The Trax is assembled in South Korea, leaving it subject to the new 25% tariff upon entering the United States. Matt Bowers, owner of two Chevrolet dealerships in New Orleans is worried about it.

He claims that this will ruin it among price-sensitive customers. It would be detrimental to its popularity. The Trax was the most popular SUV that General Motors imports from Korea.

According to MSN, it accounted for 13% of sales in 2024. The Trax sold about 200,000 units last year. It was more popular than the more expensive Subaru Crosstrek and Honda HR-V.

However, the tariffs have been active for two weeks and Chevrolet hasn’t increased the price year. The Silverado is assembled in Canada and Mexico so it could face price increases as well.

On top of that, the Buick Encore and Envista are built in South Korea. Both of these SUVs start under $30,000. This is much lower than the average cost of $50,000 for a General Motors vehicle.
