Volkswagen is recalling over 114,000 cars due to dangerously faulty airbags
Volkswagen has made some of the most iconic cars in automotive history. The brand may not be as regarded as it once was, but many of its nameplates still command a degree of respect. However, the automaker has a new car recall on its hands over a dangerous airbag issue. In some ways, this Volkswagen recall is an extension of a previous one. Luckily, auto mechanics at dealerships will repair the issue free of charge.
Volkswagen has a new car recall on its hands over an airbag issue
No one wants to deal with a car recall. This is the case for automakers and buyers alike. However, they are necessary for safety. According to Cars.com, Volkswagen is recalling 114,400 vehicles with Takata airbags. Notably, these models have driver-side airbags that could explode and send sharp metal fragments throughout the vehicle’s cabin.
So, what Volkswagen models are included with this new car recall? It impacts the 2017 through 2019 Volkswagen Beetle and Beetle convertible models, the 2006-2007 Passat sedan, the 2012-2014 Passat, and the 2017 Passat wagon. The automaker previously recalled the 2015 and 2016 Beetle models for the same defective airbags, but now it’s expanding the recall.
This car recall is paramount; owners should take their vehicles to the auto mechanics at dealerships as soon as possible. Already, 400 people in the U.S. have sustained injuries related to these defective airbags. Additionally, 28 people have died because of them. Of course, these airbags were used in several vehicles from other automakers, so it’s an extensive issue. Notably, the older age of some of these vehicles makes it more likely owners will experience problems related to these airbags.
Volkswagen will notify owners about the car recall near the end of December.
