General Motors is recalling almost 80,000 vehicles over a software malfunction that causes transmission problems
Car recalls are a necessary evil for vehicle owners and automakers alike. Of course, they help keep people safe as they are one of the easiest ways for automakers to address issues with vehicles that have been sold already. Now, General Motors has issued a car recall for 80,000 vehicles with a software malfunction that can cause transmission problems. Here’s what you should know.
GM has yet another car recall on its hands
Like all automakers, General Motors is no stranger to a car recall. According to Reuters, the automotive giant is recalling 77,824 vehicles due to a software problem. Specifically, there is an issue with the transmission control module software that causes problems with performance. Perhaps the most notable issue is that the vehicle could move in unintended directions, which is dangerous and could cause car accidents.
However, other issues prompted this car recall. Impacted vehicles may experience reduced power, deceleration, and rear-wheel lockup. Of course, these symptoms are also dangerous for drivers.
So, which models are a part of the car recall? The first is the Chevrolet Express from 2022 to 2023, and the other is the GMC Savana from the same year. As with most recalls, auto mechanics at GM dealerships will fix the issue. Impacted owners can expect to receive an official notification from GM soon. Of course, both vans recalled are cargo vehicles, which means they are less popular than GM’s other vehicles.
This comes after GM recently recalled almost half a million vehicles for other transmission issues.
