Tesla CEO Elon Musk is a controversial figure. He’s so controversial that a Musk-detesting student organization is targeting California Tesla owners with threats of vandalism and “physical damage to Tesla-branded vehicles.”

An anti-extremist student organization is threatening California Tesla owners with vandalism unless they sell their EVs

Nearly one month after Elon Musk’s inflammatory gesture at the presidential inauguration ceremony, a student group is threatening California Tesla owners. The “Students Against Nazi Extremism” (SANE) mailed a manifesto to a Humboldt County media outlet. The threat? Tesla owners in the area must sell or trade their EVs or face vandalism.

Arcata Police Department officers investigated the threats, stating that Tesla owners in the area reported finding threatening notes on their vehicles. Troublingly, the notes suggested that the group would take action by February 12, 2025. As a probable demonstration of intent, at least one of the notes was affixed to a brick.

One of the threatening notes read, “TESLA OWNERS TRADE OR SELL BEFORE FEB 12 AFTER THAT IT IS OPEN SEASON.” In addition to the notes, SANE mailed a manifesto to the Lost Coast Outpost with no return address.

According to the manifesto, the actions are a response to Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his actions. The pages label Musk “an overt Nazi with a history of fascist, racist, misogynist and criminal behavior.” However, rather the organization isn’t targeting the DOGE head.

No, it’s promising actions against California Tesla owners. Incidentally, the manifesto says SANE wants to “create enough shame to make it onerous for anyone to buy or operate a Tesla-branded vehicle.”

Lost Coast Outpost reporter Ryan Burns suggests that the move is intended to hurt Tesla by creating “a stigma around owning a Tesla.” What’s more, Burns says “They (SANE) want the value of Tesla vehicles to plummet.”
