Cadillac fans love the CT5. I get it. Big motor up front, power to the rear, and that classic Cadillac swagger. But I’ve got some news you won’t love: GM’s not building another. That’s right—when the current CT4 and CT5 ride off into the sunset, there’s no new gas-powered replacement waiting in the wings. What’s coming next? All-electric Cadillac sedans. And yeah, I’m actually kind of pumped.

No ICE replacements, but the electric Cadillac sedan is coming

GM Authority reports that “General Motors has no plans to offer a new generation of the Cadillac CT5 and Cadillac CT4 with an internal combustion engine.” This news comes “According to sources familiar with the matter.” That’s the end of the line for the ICE-powered Caddy sedans we know and love.

But don’t grab your pitchfork just yet. Cadillac is “currently cooking up a pair of all-electric sedans.” These new models are expected to be similar in size to the CT5 and CT6. And here’s the kicker—they’re not crossovers.

Both electric Cadillac sedan models will be “low hip-point” vehicles. That means they’ll sit lower than the Lyriq SUV, more like a classic sport sedan. Translation? Lower center of gravity, better handling, sweet sedan style, and a shot at better efficiency per kilowatt-hour. A win-win.

Not a traditional sedan—but maybe something cooler

Don’t expect a basic three-box layout. The electric Cadillac sedans may have “a sportback profile similar to that of the Cadillac Escala concept or even the Cadillac Celestiq.” Think sleek. Think futuristic. Think not-an-SUV.

They’ll ride on a platform called BEV Prime, which is believed to be a more premium version of the BEV3 chassis that underpins current GM EVs like the Lyriq and Blazer EV.

No word yet on powertrain specs or trim names. But Cadillac’s designers are already working on the new look. And if it feels anything like the Sollei concept? I’m in.

CT5 and CT4 are out, but a new electric Cadillac sedan is in

No more V6s. No more turbo-fours. But maybe—just maybe—we’re finally getting sleek, low-slung EV sedans that don’t handle like minivans. And if Cadillac nails the design, I’ll be first in line to write them up. Pour one out for the ICE CT5… but don’t count out what’s coming next.
