NASA is gearing up to broadcast live coverage of Boeing’s Starliner landing as it prepares to leave the International Space Station (ISS) and return to Earth. The uncrewed spacecraft will begin its trip back home by detaching from the space station around 6:04 p.m. EST on Friday, September 6, aiming to touch down at White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico at approximately 12:03 a.m. on Saturday, September 7.

NASA will stream the entire event via the following platforms:

• NASA’s YouTube channel

Before the departure, the agency will hold a news conference at noon on Wednesday, September 4, at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Key figures from NASA’s Commercial Crew and International Space Station programs, along with a flight director, will share insights.

Earlier this year, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams took off aboard the Starliner on June 5 for its first crewed flight test, reaching the space station the following day.

However, during the mission, some technical issues, including helium leaks and thruster problems, were identified.

To ensure safety, NASA decided last month that Starliner must return without a crew. Wilmore and Williams will stay on the space station and are scheduled to come back to Earth in February 2025 aboard SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft, along with the Crew-9 mission team.

6:04 p.m. – Undocking

10:50 p.m. – Coverage resumes for deorbit burn, entry, and landing on NASA+, the NASA app, YouTube, and the agency’s website.

Saturday, Sept. 7

12:03 a.m. – Targeted landing

1:30 a.m. – Post-landing news conference with the following participants:
