[Watch] Driver caught on dash cam running family off the road, claims it was just a mirror tap
Lorelei Graham and her boyfriend were taking a leisure drive along Utah’s scenic American Fork Canyon road to enjoy the snowcapped mountains and frosted trees. All of a sudden, a Ford Escape SUV turned a corner and headed straight toward Graham’s BMW.
Her boyfriend’s quick thinking made him swerve off the road to avoid a head-on collision. However, the BMW ended up swerving off of the road and onto a snowy bank, where it ended up severely damaged.
Dash cam footage from the BMW showed the car speeding around the blind turn, coming into the oncoming lane, and just missing Graham’s BMW.
Lorelei’s father, Chad, was grateful that his daughter’s boyfriend was driving, or her fate may have been different.
“I hugged my daughter’s boyfriend and said, ‘You saved my daughter’s life,'” he told KSL.
The crash victims just want justice
The dash cam footage showed the Ford Escape driver hitting the mirror off of the car and did not stop to take accountability or exchange insurance information. Lorelei says it would be nice if they’d own up to their mistake and pay for the damages.
“It would just be nice to just kind of let things come forward and I guess get justice,” she said. “Justice would be nice.”
Chas has since submitted the dash camera footage to police, who told KSL reporters an investigation is underway to find the driver.
Dash cam footage viewers don’t think the Grahams will get closure
“Be real, they’ll own up when the sheriff is in his driveway,” writes a viewer.
Many viewers praised Lorelei’s boyfriend’s quick thinking and reflexes.
“A head-on collision would be fatal, good think he had some reflexes,” wrote another. “Living in Utah for eight years, they have some of the worst drivers, especially in the winter. Everybody tailgates you there or they just cut you off because some drivers don’t like overtakers.”
Several more assumed the driver was distracted.
“They were probably looking at their phone, but we all need a dash cam,” they wrote.
