You don’t have to keep looking for answers. Experts have officially determined when the best time to buy a used truck is. Of course, this information wouldn’t be complete without also sharing the worst time to buy a used car.

When is the best time to buy a used truck?

According to iSeeCars, the best time of year to buy a used truck is in January and February. That’s basically now, so if you want to save this year with the best deal, get moving.

There tend to be 41.1% more deals than average in January and 31.8% more deals in February. December is also a good time to strike with 32.5% more deals than average.

For truck buyers, saying winter is coming can be a good thing. There seems to be a correlation between used vehicle prices and the temperature. The warmer the temperature, the more you’ll pay.

Some of the worst months to shop for a used car are in the middle of summer. For example, June is the worst time with 30.4% fewer deals than average. May has 27.8% fewer deals as well.

Some holidays are more important than others. New Year’s Day has 47.9% more deals than average and Father’s Day has 33.1% fewer deals. The availability of used trucks plummets between New Year’s and Father’s Day.

It does make sense for drivers. Who wants to go test drive a vehicle when it’s really cold and snowy out? Also, less people are inclined to sit at a cold dealership for hours to close a deal when they could be warm at home.

iSeeCars analyzed over 39 million used car sales from 2023 through November 2024 to determine when the best deals occur. Deals were based on if the vehicle was listed at five percent or more below the fair market value.
