However, some mechanics can be shady. One woman out of Georgia says she took her vehicle to a shop, and they never worked on it. Now, she’s not the only one with complaints. 

Not all auto mechanics are of quality, which is why drivers have to be selective 

Quite a bit goes into people choosing auto mechanics to service their beloved vehicles. This is the case because some are known to scam drivers and make them believe they have no recourse. According to WSBTV, a woman in Cobb County, Georgia, named Ila Scott needed repairs for her Mercedes Sprinter van. She went to Vining’s Auto Repair shop on Cumberland Parkway, where they told her it would cost $3,000 to fix the car. 

The report says she only permitted them to run a diagnostic check. The problem is that it seems the auto mechanics at the shop never did the diagnostic test on the vehicle, which had a check engine light on. So, the woman returned to the shop and asked for it back, and they refused to do so unless she paid them $1,400. She says she paid them and then took it to a Mercedes dealership, which confirmed that no one had done work on the van. 

The news outlet then looked into this shop and its mechanics. While reading Google reviews, they found several posts. In them, car owners had similar stories involving not receiving repairs but the shop requesting thousands of dollars. Notably, the Georgia Attorney General’s Office has five complaints about the company. One says the auto mechanics held his car for months. They also forced him to pay $4,000 to retrieve it. 

Now, Ila hopes this media attention will lead to an investigation into the shop and its practices. Still, readers should know that there are ways to weed out the shady mechanics from the good ones. People needing repairs should always search the business online and look at a variety of ratings, especially more recent ones. This is why many people use the same mechanic for their auto repairs instead of going to different shops.
