Many people are on the market for the best new cars to buy. However, some vehicles are better than others, and auto mechanics know this more than most. Recently, one well-known mechanic with over 800,000 social media followers revealed the automakers with the highest repair costs. Of course, this is based on his shop and isn’t a universal truth.

Finding the best cars to buy can be challenging. Luckily, auto mechanics can do more than fix vehicles. Instead, they can shine a light on the automakers that have the most expensive cars to maintain. Recently, a mechanic from Royalty Auto Service in Texas took to TikTok to share the automakers with the most costly repair bills at his shop.
For context, this data is from the last two years. The automakers are in order from least expensive to the most.
5) Volkswagen- Many agree
Many auto mechanics have a love-hate relationship with Volkswagen. Yes, it makes some of the best cars to buy. However, it isn’t the most reliable brand. This mechanic says that, on average, the repair bill for a Volkswagen comes out to $1,000 at his shop. Of course, this doesn’t mean each repair bill costs that much, but it shows these cars can have some expensive issues. Notably, he highlights that oil leaks are a big issue.
4) BMW- This is not surprising
The second most expensive automaker for repairs at his shop is BMW. Like many auto mechanics, this one points out that people know BMW for having oil leaks, which can be costly. He also says this is a common characteristic of European vehicles.
3) Ram- It already doesn’t have the best reputation
Next on the list is Ram. He starts by saying, “These things have got motor problems, they leak oil, they have lifter issues, there’s just a ton of issues with these vehicles.” Of course, Ram often makes various lists of the most expensive vehicles to maintain.
2) Land Rover- makes some of the best cars to buy but has questionable reliability
The second most expensive car brand to fix at his shop, and many auto mechanics will agree, are Land Rover vehicles. Notably, he says they have done several videos on Land Rover and that he doesn’t even know where to begin with the issues. Specifically, he says they have engine problems.
