Is getting your packages more important than a human life? One Amazon driver may have thought so. After causing a deadly hit-and-run accident, he didn’t stop. Instead, he fled the scene to keep delivering packages.

Amazon driver pretends hit-and-run didn’t happen

An Amazon driver is now behind bars after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident. Police officers responded to the scene of a fatal accident on Cumming Highway near Jordan Lane that occurred around 6:30 PM.

Evidence in the roadway suggested that the accident was caused by an Amazon delivery truck. The main indicator was a Rivian part. Then an officer spotted a delivery truck turning down a road nearby.

The truck had damage that matched the evidence found at the scene. It was the same truck that hit and killed a pedestrian.

The driver was identified as 24-year-old London Best of Alpharetta. He was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide and hit-and-run resulting in death. He is being held without bond.

Captain Baker of the Cation Police shared that if he didn’t leave the scene then the charges would be different. He likely wouldn’t have felonies. The victim was identified as 79-year-old Sandra Fitts of Canton.

Amazon spokesperson Austin Stowe shared that Amazon is deeply saddened by this incident and that its thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this time.

It will support local police as they investigate. The driver is currently ineligible to deliver for the company, pending the outcome of the investigation.

To make matters worse, narcotics were found in the electric delivery van during the investigation, adding to London’s charges. He had under one ounce of marijuana and other drug-related objects.

Perhaps Amazon drivers should be vetted more or have drug tests more regularly. Also, there isn’t any information suggesting that London was driving under the influence at the time.
