9 things make driving 2025 GMC Sierra EV absolutely bonkers
I’m no stranger to electric trucks but the 2025 GMC Sierra EV has taken me by surprise. It stands out for being incredibly unique and powerful with perplexing features. I gave it my usual spider monkey treatment by driving it from the woods into the city, and here’s what you need to know.
9 things about the 2025 GMC Sierra EV that you need to know
I sent the 2025 GMC Sierra EV through the entire gauntlet. I went off-roading with it around the woods in Asheville, NC and took a day trip with it to downtown Waynesville. After putting miles on the odometer, here’s what you need to know the most.
1. The 2025 GMC Sierra EV is big
The 2025 GMC Sierra EV is hefty. It weighs between 8,620 to 8,970 lbs and the gas-powered model rings in at 4,400 to 5,890 lbs. Keep this in mind if you live in an area with thick red mud, because you might sink in it.
Also, the truck is 233.4 inches or 19.45 feet long and 81.24” or 6.77 feet wide. It’s a massive vehicle, inside and out, making it a little stressful to maneuver in crowded parking lots.
But each row has plenty of space for adults to stretch out. Seriously, the seats are well-padded and massive with plenty of adjustment controls to find the perfect position.
2. The panoramic sunroof doesn’t have a shade
The 2025 GMC Sierra EV has a massive sunroof that spans the entire length of the roof. It provides a beautiful view of the sky.
However, some of my passengers complained about the sun getting in their eyes and I couldn’t help them. There’s no retractable shade to block harsh rays.
3. Range anxiety isn’t an issue
The GMC Sierra EV has roughly 440 miles of range on a single charge. This is enough to take day trips without having to worry about finding a charger. Heck, most drivers probably only have to charge their trucks once every two weeks or so.

Fluctuating temperatures don’t seem to diminish its charge, even during frigid nights. It also holds settings with accurate range readings. In other EVs, like the Subaru Solterra, turning on the radio and AC would knock 15 to 20 miles of range away.
4. This truck is comfortable
The 2025 GMC Sierra EV is surprisingly silent, you can hear yourself breathe in it. It’s incredibly peaceful for longer jaunts on the highway. Plus, the suspension easily soaks up impacts like massive potholes never existed.
It definitely has seats that are in the top five most comfortable options and the HVAC system is on point. You’ll be cozy at 25 degrees and cool at 85 degrees.
5. The tech is a bit wonky
Of course, the 2025 GMC Sierra EV is incredibly advanced with customizable options. However, people didn’t believe me when I said it doesn’t have Apple CarPlay. Instead, the system is powered by Google.
But connecting your phone is still easy and the hidden wireless phone charging pad is great. The 16.8-inch touchscreen acts quickly with attractive graphics. But most controls rely on the touchscreen, which was unresponsive to my touch at times.
Out of every vehicle with a hands-free driving mode, I like General Motor’s Super Cruise is my favorite. It simply feels the safest.
When you sit in the driver’s seat with the keys then the truck automatically starts. It turns off when you exit it, and you can also use the touchscreen to turn it off. There are no buttons to push or keys to turn.
I got used to it so quickly that I’ve been leaving the current Jeep Wrangler I’m reviewing running by accident due to just parking and walking away.
6. Get ready to race
The GMC Sierra EV has 645 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.3 seconds. You can instantly take off or plan your launches with the button shaped like Mojunor (Thor’s hammer)
Also, the brakes provide confident stopping power. My only complaint is that this hefty beast has a bit of body roll around sharp mountain curves.
7. There is an insane amount of cargo space
You could pretty much live in the GMC Sierra EV thanks to an abundance of cargo space. The center console and glove box are just massive. Cup holders can be found everywhere you look, plus the rear seats fold up.
There are 57.5 cubic feet of cargo space in the bed, allowing you to easily haul kayaks. However, the liftover height is a bit high. If you have more stuff, the truck can tow up to 10,500 lbs.
8. The GMC 1500 is agile
Using the parking assistance feature and crab walk mode helps you easily park in tight spots. Plus, the 360-degree camera provides tons of great visibility to navigate around obstacles.
This truck has a turning radius that’s about six feet tighter than the Ford F-150 Lightning. The rear-axle steering system is extremely helpful while parking, making it’s size not much of a big deal.
9. The truck is expensive
My 2025 GMC Sierra EV tester rings in at $101,000. That seems extremely expensive for a truck. However, the Sierra EV provides value with its practical functions, comfort, lavish interior, superior range, and advanced tech.
