70k GMC Sierra 1500 trucks recalled due to grille problem

Over 70,000 GMC Sierra 1500 models are being recalled due to a problem that could cause pieces of the front grille to fly off.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 70,768 trucks produced in 2022 are at risk. Models made after the 2022 mid-cycle upgrade are included.

They could have faulty hood molding that causes the front grille to detach, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries. Trucks with the chrome front grille deflector have attachments that hold the front grille deflector and they may fracture over time.

General Motors shared that it received 1,225 field complaints between April 2022 and December 2024 that are possibly related to the problem.

Also, there are four related accidents, but no reported injuries. Drivers may notice that the front of their trucks rattle before pieces of the grille begin to break off.

If your truck is at risk, you will be notified via mail around March 24. However, you can call GM Customer Service at 1-800-462-8782 with any questions you may have. The number for this recall is N242490120. You can also visit the NHTSA site to enter your 17-digit V.I.N.

Drivers will be reimbursed for repairs. Currently, General Motors doesn’t have a solution for this issue but will notify owners when a remedy is available.
