5 of the best scary movie cars to kick off your Halloween celebration
It’s that spooky time of year. Faux spider webs and over-the-top lawn decorations are out in force. Pop-up costume shops occupy once common department stores. And scary movie favorites are playing non-stop. Of course, that means some interesting vehicle-spotting for enthusiasts with a penchant for a scary movie and cool cars. Here are some of the best Halloween-themed classic cars and murder trucks you can find in your favorite movies.
From the murderous ‘Christine’ to the familiar Oldsmobile in ‘Evil Dead’, there’s no shortage of bone-chilling scary movie cars
There’s something sinister about an old muscle car with a lumpy cam and blend-in-to-the-night black paintwork. The bulletproof Pontiac GTO from the 2004 “Punisher” film comes to mind. However, there are a few icons of the Halloween season with villainy to match the most psychotic slashers.
Movie title (year) | Make and model |
---|---|
‘Christine’ (1983) | 1958 Plymouth Fury |
‘Death Proof’ (2007) | 1970 Chevrolet Nova |
‘Evil Dead’ (1981) | 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale |
‘Maximum Overdrive’ (1986) | 1977 White Western Star 4800 |
‘Duel’ (1971) | 1961 Peterbilt 351 |
What list of scary movie cars would be complete with the namesake car from the 1983 Stephen King film “Christine.” The killer classic is a red 1958 Plymouth Fury. In the Stephen King book-turned-film, Christine killed unsuspecting victims in “accidents” before it even left the factory. And, as you might imagine, the carnage doesn’t stop there.
Fast forward to 2007, and you’ve got a gnarly representation of a killer muscle car. It can be none other than the “Death Proof” 1970 Chevrolet Nova. In the Quentin Tarantino movie, Kurt Russell uses the modified Chevrolet Nova to create horror across the American South. Moreover, with a matte black paint job, a V8 under the hood, and a rad variant of the Jolly Roger on the hood, it’s a menacing muscle car.
The 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale from “Evil Dead” is a fan favorite among scary movie cars. Incidentally, the iconic Oldsmobile refused to stop getting screen time. After “Evil Dead,” the old Delta 88 Royale featured in “Evil Dead 2,” “Army of Darkness,” and even “Dr. Srange in the Multiverse of Madness,” per IMCDB.
The final two scary movie cars aren’t cars at all. More specifically, they’re big, brutish trucks. The first is the garish, Happy Toyz-liveried 1977 White Western Star 4800 in “Maximum Overdrive.” However, long before the 1986 film, the 1961 Peterbilt 351 was an on-screen murder machine in the “Duel” (1971).
