Bring back the beaters! New trucks sure are expensive and they aren’t built like they used to be. Unfortunately, computer chips replaced older parts that were easy to replace at home. But you aren’t out of luck. 

You can still find various used pickup trucks with stout reputations for reliability and low maintenance costs to scratch that classic truck itch. 

1. The second-generation Toyota Tacoma 

    The second generation Toyota Tacoma includes model years 2005 – 2015. Unless the frame has been severely rusted, thenyou could find an option that will provide years of affordable service. 

    While the first 10 years of ownership costs about $6,731, rates get significantly cheaper after. It costs about $478 to maintain a second generation Tacoma annually. 

    While it might be less refined than rivals and doesn’t have the best fuel economy, it has above-average off-roading capabilities and an excellent resale value. 

    2. Some third-generation Ford Ranger models 

      Later models from the third Ford Ranger generation can provide years of work and play. The best model years are between 2005 and 2011. 

      The average maintenance costs for the first 10 years of ownership hover around $10,510. Then it costs about $615 themaintain per year.

      Sure space is limited, and it doesn’t have many modern features. But it’s compact size is convenient, it’s practical, and covers the basics. A lot of people want small trucks to make a comeback. 

      3. Most second-generation Nissan Frontier models 

        Another group of reliable used trucks comes from the second-generation Nissan Frontier. Model years between 2005 – 2018 are very durable, providing you with options from various price ranges. 

        Drivers may spend about $8,854 on maintenance during the first 10 years of ownership. Then the average annual maintenance cost drops to $470. 

        It might feel dated compared to rivals and has a tight rear seat. But it’s solid for off-roading, towing, and for keeping costs down.
