If you miss the Volkswagen Golf or want a well-rounded, affordable SUV, then it’s time to take a look at the 2025 Volkswagen Taos. This SUV is affordable, engaging, and comfortable with really only one potential drawback to consider.

Only one feature holds the 2025 Volkswagen Taos back

For the most part, I enjoyed my week with the 2025 Volkswagen Taos as the vibrant shade of Bright Moss Green paint. But I won’t beat around the bush, so let’s dive into one potential issue.

In my humble opinion, the VW Taos struggles in the tech department. While the 8.0-inch infotainment screen is a nice size, it could use a better resolution. The graphics are grainy and you may find yourself squinting at the reverse camera.

While the 8.0-inch digital instrument panel helps the SUV feel a bit more modern, it’s pretty basic and easy to forget. Plus, the base model has wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

My model had wireless Apple CarPlay and dropped its connection a few times. It also gave me messages about a failed software update and flashed some symbols that seemed like programming characters and Japanese lettering.

The six-speaker sound system did its job with no complaints. Also, the HVAC system and safety features seemed confident. However, the touchscreen controls were slow to respond at times and the voice recognition software wasn’tprepared for my southern accent.

Here’s what the 2025 Volkswagen Taos gets right

Each model is equipped with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 174 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The VW Taos can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.4 seconds. It provides plenty of pep to liven up your commute and for passing others.

It gets an EPA-estimated 35 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway with AWD. I fell slightly short of this estimate, but I’m notorious for having a lead foot.

Plus, it’s surprisingly comfortable with a smooth ride, quiet interior, and large padded seats. There is an abundance of space for taller folks in the front.

At 5’1” I fit in the backseat just fine, but the seats in the rear are a bit stiff. Taller adults might feel a little cramped, but this SUV is ready for five people to pile in.

My model was equipped with AWD and extremely impressive in the woods. I’m surprised there isn’t an off-roading version because it handled dips, inclines, mud, and slippery conditions like a champion.

I was also impressed by the upscale, luxurious interior. The leather-wrapped surfaces are plush and inviting, and the 10-color ambient interior lighting provides unique bursts of color. Silver accents help break up large sections of back upholstery.

Plus, the panoramic sunroof is massive! It’s like having a glass ceiling with the right amount of tint to avoid being too bright. It lets tons of fresh spring air in, which is a good perk during adventures.

The 2025 Volkswagen Taos also has a solid amount of cargo space. There are 27.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and an impressive 65.9 cubes overall.

You can get started with the VW Taos for about $24,995. The top-spec 1.5T SEL model increases the price to $34,695. It’s an affordable SUV compared to its rivals.

While the Taos checks off multiple boxes for its comfort, space, and performance, the tech could use some updating.
