The 2025 Toyota Tundra outranks rivals in 1 crucial area
Today it’s time to celebrate the 2025 Toyota Tundra. This big beast has had a little trouble fighting against rival trucks. But now it outperforms the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and Chevy Silverado 1500 in one significant area.
The 2025 Toyota Tundra is the only IIHS Top Safety Pick+ winner
The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has sent every full-size truck through a gauntlet of testing to determine which trucks are the safest. Only two trucks made the cut, including the 2025 Toyota Tundra and Rivian R1T.
However, the Rivian R1T is electric and smaller than the average full-size truck. Therefore, I’m focusing on the Tundra, which is safer than rivals.
To earn the Top Safety Pick+ title, a vehicle is required to earn good ratings in the small overlap and updated side tests. It needs an acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap front tests. Plus, it needs acceptable or good headlights across each trim.
According to the IIHS, the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 received poor ratings in the moderate overlap front test. The Silverado also got marginal ratings in the front small overlap test and poor headlight scores.
The new Ram 1500 hasn’t been tested yet. However, the previous generation earned a poor rating in the moderate overlap front test and has acceptable headlights.
It might catch up to the 2025 Toyota Tundra, though. In the meantime, the Tundra sets itself ahead with Good or Acceptable ratings in every category. It’s pretty rare to see a truck without any poor or marginal ratings.
