The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E has been a hugely popular new addition to the growing lineup of electric vehicles. As an SUV version of the Ford Mustang, it’s versatile and sporty. Yet one of its biggest drawbacks has been its range. The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E gets 211 miles on a single charge. It’s not a terrible number, but it isn’t great, either. The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E promises to change that, with battery updates that will provide a longer range.

What is the range of the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E?

The current battery for the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is 68 kWh, according to Car and Driver. This is what gives the Mustang Mach-E its 211 miles of range. The new 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E will get a little boost, going to 70 kWh. There’s also an extended range pack, which is 88 kWh in the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and is growing to 91 kWh.

Acording to Car and Driver, and official EPA numbers for the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E won’t change from the 2021 Mach-E. That’s because the EPA isn’t going to retest the 2022 Mach-E. Car and Driver estimates that the increased battery capacity will allow for an extra eight miles of range in the test they perform to check range, which shows a reduced range compared to the EPA’s test. Still, an extra eight miles can be the difference between making it to a charging station and not, and people interested in buying the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E will likely welcome any increase in range.

What’s new for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E?

An increase in battery capacity isn’t the only change for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E. If you opt for the California Route 1 trim level, which currently has 305 miles of range, you’ll also be able to get all-wheel drive, which isn’t available in the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1. Other improvements to the Route 1 trim include heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, which will definitely make the 2022 Mach-E more attractive to those living in colder climates.

Some color options are changing, too. There’s the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E Ice White Edition, which is a package you can order that will make every aspect of your Mach-E white. Iconic Silver and Carbonized Grey are gone from the lineup. Instead, you can get Iced Blue Silver Metallic. While only the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E had Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange, you’ll now be able to get those colors on other trim levels.

How much is the 2022 Mach-E?

The price for the base level of the 2022 Mustang Mach-E will remain the same as the 2021 Mustang Mach-E, at $43,995. However, the cost of the 2022 Mach-E Premium is increasing by $500, to $49,200. The Route 1 trim level will increase by a smaller increment of $375, making the Route 1 $51,875. And if you want the 2022 Mach-E GT, you’ll actually save money over the 2021 Mach-E GT. Its price is decreasing by $1,005, to $59,995.

Demand for the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E remains high, and the delivery dates reflect that. If you order the California Route 1 trim level, for example, you’ll be able to get it in February of 2022. However, if you want the Premium or GT, you’ll have to wait until April 2022.

Considering the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E was so popular with 211 miles of range, it’s expected that the additional range, while not huge, will be a selling point for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E. And with electric vechiles’ range increasing across different car manufacturers, it’s likely we’ll continue to see an increase in future Ford Mustang Mach-Es as well.
