17 dogs get rescued from ruff living conditions in a Chevy Silverado
How many dogs is too many dogs? The answer to that question is how much space and proper resources you can provide for pups. A woman was living with 17 dogs in her Chevy Silverado, until someone noticed their poor condition.
17 dogs get rescued from poor living conditions in a Chevy Silverado
Typically, dogs love riding in trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado. However, 17 dogs living in the back of one were malnourished, covered in feces, and didn’t have access to water.
Carolyn Newsome was arrested after other drivers spotted her living in a truck with too many dogs. The pups were quickly rescued after concerned citizens saw the truck at a Dollar Tree in Walker, Michigan, and called 911.
She appeared in court on Monday and was charged with failing to provide adequate care for 10 or more animals. However, Carolyn argues that the dogs didn’t have poor living conditions.
Police officers disagree. They took the dogs from the Chevy Silverado to a local shelter and their personalities quickly changed.
The dogs were cleaned up, quickly drank tons of water and ate copious amounts of food. They went from being scared and weak to relaxed after clearly showing signs of starvation and dehydration.
Newsome faces up to four years in prison, a $5,000 fine, and 500 hours of community service. She currently remains in custody of the Kent County Jail. She could be ordered to never own another animal.
Hopefully, the dogs will find loving homes and enjoy riding in trucks again after being rehabilitated. It’s currently unclear when they will be ready for adoption. The medical team at the shelter is still treating the dogs as they are cared for by the dedicated staff.
When you have so many dogs, veterinary care can cost thousands. If you’re struggling to care for multiple pets, call local shelters. There are resources available to help.
