Only 1 mid-size truck beat the Ford Maverick in 2024
The Ford Maverick continues to prove that tiny trucks are in. It managed to outsell most of its mid-size rivals in 2024. In fact, only one option managed to beat it with more sales. The Maverick is leaving most of its rival trucks in the dust.
Only 1 mid-size truck beat the 2024 Ford Maverick
In 2024, the Ford Maverick managed to sell 157,345 units and it still struggles to meet demand. It finished the year strong with a sales increase of 33% in the third quarter.
But it has one mid-size rival in its sights. Critics thought that the Maverick could outsell the Toyota Tacoma in 2024. It came close but ended the year with 192,813 sales.
The Chevrolet Colorado sold 70,720 trucks in 2024, for a year-over-year sales increase of 20%. Also, according to Ford Authority, the Ford Ranger only sold 46,205 units.
The Nissan Frontier ended the year with 66,155 sales, and the Honda Ridgeline achieved 45.412 sales. The Jeep Gladiator didn’t do so hot, with 42,125 sales. Last but not least, the GMC Canyon sold 38,486 trucks.

So the Toyota Tacoma beat the Maverick by 35,468 trucks. The Tacoma sold 234,768 models in 2023, so it did face a sales decline. If this trend continues into 2025, then the Maverick could catch it.
But Tacoma sales may have been lacking because it was completely redesigned for 2024. Facilities had to be retrofitted to build the new truck and models didn’t start shipping until later in the year.
Also, the Tacoma could be hurt by increasing reports of transmission problems. Meanwhile, the Maverick has an excellent reliability score. Plus, the Maverick is rocking an attractive mid-cycle refresh for 2025. We might have a close sales race on our hands for 2025.
